How To Make Your Bed Look Fluffy (8 Genius Ideas)

This post shows you how to make your bed look fluffy!

Okay, let’s talk about one of my favorite things in the world: a beautifully made, fluffy, cloud-like bed.

You know the kind. The kind that makes you want to dive in face-first and cancel all your plans.

The kind you see in a hotel room and immediately start Googling where they buy their pillows.

I used to think you had to spend a ton of money to get that hotel-bed look, but it turns out fluffiness is mostly strategy.

Here are 9 simple things I do to make my bed look ridiculously plush and luxe every single day.

Best ways to make your bed look fluffy

1. Double up on inserts

The first big tip I have for making your bed look fluffy is to put two comforters in the duvet cover.

This makes a huge difference in how thick and full it looks. Honestly, this is the foundation; nothing else really matters if the duvet doesn’t look fluffy.

I attach the two duvets together with safety pins. One in each corner and then a couple on the sides, so everything stays in place.

People also often say to size up in duvets, but I personally don’t think that’s a good idea.

Just put two queen-sized comforters in the queen-size duvet cover. Or, of course, if your bed is king-sized, you’d do this with king-sized comforters and duvet cover.

I love this muslin duvet cover from H&M, it’s perfect for layering.

2. Layer your pillows

Do a little pillow sandwich: Euros in the back, then two sleeping pillows stacked or standing up, then one or two decorative throw pillows in front.

I try to keep it to three layers max so it doesn’t look cluttered: just plush.

3. Fold the duvet and add a blanket

Another trick I swear by: fold the duvet down halfway and add a blanket or throw at the foot of the bed.

It gives that layered, hotel-style look and makes everything feel more styled and intentional.

I usually go for something with texture, like a knit or a waffle weave, so it adds some coziness and contrast against the smooth duvet.

It’s such a simple move, but it instantly makes the bed look more put together and luxe.

4. Mix neutrals

It will make your bedding shopping a lot less overwhelming if you decide on the color palette first! I went with a white base (so white duvet cover), and neutral layering.

Combine white with warm linen, or white with gray, like in the picture above.

Quince has my favorite high quality (decorative) pillow covers! They’re thick and luxe and really add that fluffy vibe to your bed without breaking the bank.

5. Stick to whites or soft neutrals

There’s something about an all-white or soft-toned bed that just looks cleaner, fluffier, and more luxurious.

I use white sheets and a white duvet and add warmth with neutral pillows and a beige or cream throw.

6. Simple pillow formula

I love a simple but elegant bed pillow formula like this! Sleeping pillows in the back, then two big pillows, and one lumbar type pillow.

Tip: measure your bed’s with before committing to pillow size! This will help you get clear on whether the size is right.

7. Add an extra chunky throw

To make your bed look extra fluffy, adding a super thick and chunky throw will help create that luxurious look and feel.

Pottery barn is my favorite for extra chunky throws!! They’re not super cheap (some around the $100 mark), but really worth it if you ask me.

8. Make your bed look like a cloud

Pick a duvet cover and throw that have a lot of built in texture and fluffiness. This transforms the overall look of your bed!

To wrap it up

Alright, that’s all my fluff secrets! Honestly, making my bed feel like a cozy, hotel-level cloud has become one of my favorite little daily rituals.

It’s such a small thing, but it makes a huge difference in how your space feels.

And let’s be real, crawling into a fluffy, beautifully made bed at the end of the day is just pure joy.

Let me know if you try any of these, or if you’ve got any fluff hacks of your own. I’m always down to upgrade the cozy.
